Subject: Winsock Finger Daemon v1.1 available....
Winsock Finger Daemon is now available in wfngrd11.zip on sparky.umd.edu
in /pub/winsock.
New in version 1.1:
Command Line paramter h will hide the daemon. No more icon cluttering your
desk top. Be advised, passing this parameter prevents the task from appearing
in the task switcher, and you do not have access to the application menu in
any way. Exiting windows is the only way to unload the daemon once its loaded.
Idle Time: If you leave you pc and the machine is fingered, wsfngrd will
return how long the machine has been idle.
Increased the size of the phone field for international users.
You can now have all finger requests logged to a file for later reference...
For current status of both wsfngrd and wsfinger, finger diver.umd.edu

Subject: Winsock + WFW 3.11 + ODI drivers
Hello,
I am trying to get support for Trumpet Winsock applications within
Windows for Workgroups running on the ODI drivers.
In my CONFIG.SYS the relevant entry is:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\IFSHLP.SYS
In my AUTOEXEC.BAT the relevant lines are:
LSL
3C503
IPXODI
VLM
NET START
ODIHLP
ODIPKT
WINPKT 0x69
This all loads fine, In Windows (for Workgroups) I can see all of my
Netware resources, and all of the WFW shared printers, disks, etc.
What does not work are my Winsock applications, if I try to launch one,
the Winsock TCPMAN launches [it is correctly configured] then the
application tries/does load but takes almost 45 seconds to do so. At
this point (aside for the slowness) all appears normal, but when I try to
connect to a host, or read Newsgroups, etc. I never get connected. The
applications don't hang, they just don't run "completely".
Anyone have any advice? have I overlooked some subtle change to
SYSTEM.INI, or some other file? Please advise.
-thank you, GREG_KAISEN@QUICKMAIL.YALE.EDU

Subject: Help with SLIP needed
Hi folks, I'm having some trouble with SLIP on the PC
I've got SLIP working from a Mac to the Host which is hardwired,
but when I try it from a PC using the stuff on the floppy that
comes with the Internet Starter Kit for windows, I does not work.
When I run a terminal over the COM2 port on the PC to the SGI the
settings all work and are the same port settings I use for Newt.
Any help would be appreciated.
This is a hardwired serial setup .

First, make sure you got the WINUP9 and DOSUP9 upgrades from Novell.
Then ODIHLP must be before VLM. Make sure you don't load the "IPX/SPX
Compatible Transport" or "IPX/SPX Compatible Transport with NetBIOS"
unless you use tunneling. Also, I am not sure if you need the IPXODI
with VLM.

Subject: Workgroups TCP and winsock
I have seen quite a few posting here about the problems of winsock
and windows for workgroups, most recently Greg Kaisen.
I too have had similar problems with winsock applications running
incorrectly. (this was using Trumpet Winsock). So I got hold of
Microsoft TCP/IP(winsock), but i don't seem to be able to install
it.
Does anybody know how to install Microsoft TCP/IP(winsock) on top of
Novell NetWare 3.11 using
lsl
ne2000
ipxodi
netx
odipkt 1 96
Ultimately I would like to use WFWG and winsock applications together
any advice much appreciated
